Susan Tompor: To some, stocks hit soft patch
Are we looking at a soft patch or economic quicksand? The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell below 12,000 on Friday -- the first time since March that it closed below 12,000. The Dow closed at 11,951.91, down 172.45 points or 1.42%. Investors have been facing a rough patch for several weeks, with the Dow having fallen nearly 1,000 points since early May.
