See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com A day trip to Ipswich and area "Ipswich is my father's home town, and where my parents got married, but not on the main route between Edinburgh/York and London, so we decided to just make it a day trip. So lots more trains today - they don't connect very well, and we're all getting tired of them. 40 minute wait at Liverpool St. Station, watching all the commuters pour out to the banking district. But Ipswich and area were very much worth the trip! Diana and Rob(my 2nd cousins) live out in the countryside in Crettingham and their eldest son still maintains the family farm in Helmingham. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful area, and we got our tours of the narrow, lined country roads. This is the sort of thing that one doesn't see as a tourist, especially relying on public transportation! And it was a beautiful day for it. Robert's family has been living and farming in the area for generations, and the farmhouse is 400+ years old, but it is all still part of the old feudal system where the lands are actually owned by a local Lord (Tollemache) and the families rent and work the land. The concept takes some getting used to for Canadians, especially Peter's family who has owned land in Nova Scotia for generations, but it seems to suit people quite well, and they don't have to worry about splitting up and passing on the ...
