The organisers of the Doha GOALS forum in Qatar are hoping it will provide a platform to create "initiatives for global progress through sport". Richard Attias, the executive editor of Doha Goals, was joined by the executive director, His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Mubarak Al Thany, and Australian swimming great Ian Thorpe on Monday to look ahead to the two-day event. Attias took the opportunity to outline one of his proposals - that the highest-earning athletes should pay one percent of their salaries to the development of sport in poor parts of the world. Richard Attias, Doha Goals Executive Editor: "I suggested a few days ago - I'm not sure Ian Thorpe will be happy with that - that maybe some very high, high, high salaries of athletes, could accept to put one percent of their salaries or fees in a fund, to finance some projects related to sport in some poor countries." Ian Thorpe, Olympic gold medallist: "It will be different. We will have tangible goals at the end of it. They haven't been determined at this stage, because we have to work through all these ideas to be able to come up with some solutions that will be able to better place sport in the years to come."
