Vote on May 17, 2011 In the race for Allegheny County Controller, the bottom line is that George Matta is the most experienced candidate. George has a rich history of public service; solid credentials in business and finance; and an education that makes him well-suited to the task of being Allegheny County's Chief Financial Officer and Chief Auditor. George began his career in public service more than 30 years ago in his hometown of Duquesne where his enthusiasm for the town helped him to get elected City Controller and then Mayor. Under George's leadership, Duquesne balanced its budget for the first time in two decades; solved its pension crisis; transformed its emergency operations; and began the redevelopment of a former mill property. George subsequently was elected to two terms as Clerk of the Allegheny County Courts system where he created a collections department so that court fines, costs and restitution payments could be shared by crime victims and the county judiciary. During his tenure with the courts, George established performance evaluations for employees; modernized the communication systems and balanced the budget. In addition to his elected positions, George served as a board member of the Allegheny County Pension Fund and the Regional Industrial Development Corporation.
