HARRY FOWLER tribute "The Blue Peter" (1954) FULL MOVIE
Harry Fowler, who sadly died on 4th January 2012, started his acting career in 1942 at age 15 and continued appearing before the cameras for over 60 years, until his last appearance in 2004. Best remembered today for his lead role in the first Ealing comedy "Hue and Cry" made in 1947, Harry popped up in innumerable films playing happy go lucky types, cockney characters and small time crooks, and was always a most welcome and reliable addition to any cast. As a small tribute to Harry, here is a special presentation of the 1954 film "The Blue Peter", one of the very few films he made to be filmed in colour. Directed by Wolf Rilla for Group 3, the film starred Kieron Moore as a Korean war veteran sent to an Outward Bound School in Wales, where he becomes instructor to a group of lads including Anthony Newley, John Charlesworth, Melvyn Hayes and Harry Fowler. Harry was actually aged 27 when "The Blue Peter" was filmed, but due to his slim build and youthful appearance it was quite usual for him to be cast as characters younger than his real age. Group 3 was a short-lived production company set up in 1951 under the chairmanship of John Grierson, and it made some 21 feature films before folding in 1956. As an independent production company it may have lacked the finance to produce truly ambitious films, but from 1953 onwards colour photography was increasingly used, including the documentary "The Conquest of Everest".
