IZOD Indy Car Tire Testing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

By GoffstownToday.com sports writer, Steve Pouliot: Two of the Izod Series top teams set up shop in Loudon for 2 days of testing in anticipation of the 2011 Izod Series race at NHMS. Scott Dixon, driving for Target Chip Ganassi, and Tony Kanaan, driving for Team 7-Eleven Racing, will test over 400 tires of varying compounds in preparation for next season's event. Engineers from Firestone Racing are on site, along with the race teams, to help determine a direction for tire specification. When asked about the value of having vets like Kanaan and Dixon on board, Firestone Racing senior project manager Dale Harrigle said "Especially coming to a track we haven't run at in a long time, we want to bring veteran drivers who can tell us what they feel in the car and give us a direction," Harrigle added, "We want guys who have driven different downforce levels and different racetracks that can help us hone in on where we want to be for this race." Looking at the resumes of Dixon and Kanaan, they would qualify as top veteran drivers. Dixon boasts two championships, in 2003 and 2008, an Indy 500 win, also in '08, and 22 career wins between CART and IndyCar. Kanaan also has a championship trophy in his case, in 2004, along with 13 wins between the two sanctioning bodies.
