Does anyone of you know Rehana shaheen? It is very unlikely that you would. She was a non - descript lady health worker from Multan, who was not brave enough to further tolerate existence without salary so she decided to take her own life . This is just one glimpse of the inability of the Government to address not just employment - related issues but also issues concerning people's hopes and aspirations .Having no job or job without salary is certainly unbearable .But it has to be complete hopelessness that would drive someone to take his or her own life. Hope is inspired by leaders who can be trusted jobs are provided by leaders who have imaginations and an unyielding desire to work for people's welfare. We have none of the type in power nor in the oppositions this makes one wonder what is the purpose for which the finance minister is so anxious to impose additional taxes? To run a corrupt system that gives neither jobs nor hope to the ordinary people? Or to further feed a corrupt mafia that has bled this country white, sometimes in name of democracy: and some time in name of defense? Taxes should be collected, but then this must translate into a network of subsistence for the poor. If lady health worker of Multan are being forced to commit suicide and the system has no way to redress their grievance, a mere demand for more taxes sounds meaningless. It will be seen as another way to keep the elite happy and in power by using people's money. Watch News night with Talat ...
