[Part 4/4] Circle Line Stage 4 and 5 Emergency Exercise (Emergency). A joint emergency exercise was successfully conducted on Saturday morning to test the operational readiness of the final stage of the Circle Line (CCL) from Marymount to HarbourFront ahead of its opening on October 8. The scenario was that of a morning peak-hour train on fire, with more than 400 passengers, in the tunnel between one-north and Buona Vista stations. Swift action by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), together with SMRT and Land Transport Authority (LTA) staff, ensured all passengers were evacuated safely within 15 minutes. Simulated fire and smoke on the moving train were designed to test equipment and facilities in the event of an emergency. The exercise also tested the ability of the CCL Operations Control Centre (OCC) and emergency personnel to manage a crisis situation effectively and efficiently. Nearly 400 people participated in the exercise. They included 100 students and teachers from St Margaret's Secondary School, which is located near Farrer Road Station. Grassroots members from the seven constituencies along the final stretch of the CCL also took part. Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Mrs Josephine Teo, who observed the exercise said she was very impressed with the outcome of the exercise.
