The Synergo Arts ergonomic bench enables women artisans to protect their health while producing more textiles of better quality. As a result, they increase their ability to provide for their families, and also preserve their weaving culture. This project has its roots in the indigenous communities in Guatemala. Synergo Arts' role is educational. Through collaborations we seek to help local communities build their own infrastructure for fabrication, distribution, promotion, training and micro-finance, so that they are not dependent on outside support. We developed resources to help local carpenters learn to make the ergonomic bench, and a train-the-trainer program to help weavers learn to use it. Synergo Arts (www.synergoarts.org) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that innovates and delivers resources in ergonomics education, consulting, and design. Our mission is to help artists and artisans around the world build their capacity for using ergonomics to maximize their health, income, performance, productivity, creativity, and art or craft quality. We take a grassroots approach to innovating and delivering ergonomics resources, with a special focus on empowering the millions of artisans who depend on their craft for survival.
