I had just settled down in the carriage (2nd class, I am a backpacker!) when a charming young lady sat down, when she established that I spoke English we had a 2-3hr conversation about everything under the sun, including what to see in Warsaw, UK tax laws (she was a Finance Lecturer) and the perviously mentioned Welsh department in Lublin Uni! I love train journeys, I do! Her name was Michalina, sadly she had to return to Lublin that same day, but we did have time to grab a coffee at Warsaw Central station... Anyway, I absolutely LOVE Warsaw, the sun was shining throughout my 3 day stay, and while I saw the astounding Warsaw Uprising Museum, Wilamow Palace, the Old Town, and the notorious Stalinist Palace of Science & Culture there was lots left to see when I had to leave. I think its a good idea to see the Uprising Museum first as it gives you an appreciation of the bravery of Varsovians in rebuilding the city from complete rubble. Again, I have to mention how pleasant I found the natives, you could not stand around with a (useless!) Lonely Planet map without a passerby offering assistance, I'd also recommend Hostel Helvetia which had great facilities and a perfect location.
